MEMBERSHIP POLICY

 

Criteria


Application for membership of Joint Epilepsy Council of the U.K. and Ireland (JEC) is open to any organisation or individual in the U.K. or Ireland that works to meet the needs of people with epilepsy and their families, subject to the approval of the Directors.


Categories of Membership of the JEC


Full Membership


Full Membership shall be open to:

 

any professional body or non-profit distributing organisation of sufficient standing within the epilepsy field which is an incorporated body.

 

any individual nominated by a professional body or non-profit distributing organisation of sufficient standing within the epilepsy field which is an unincorporated body.


Full Members are entitled to vote at General Meetings of the Charity.


Affiliate Membership


Affiliate Membership shall be open to:

 

any professional body or non-profit distributing organisation which does not qualify for Full Membership and is an incorporated body.

 

any individual nominated by a professional body or non-profit distributing organisation which does not qualify for Full Membership and is an unincorporated body.


Affiliate Members are entitled to attend and speak at General Meetings of the Charity but are not entitled to a vote.


Affiliate Members may only use the JEC name if Affiliate Membership is clearly noted and may only use the JEC logo with the express permission of the General Secretary.


Individual Membership


Individual Membership shall be open to:

 

any individual who wishes to support the aims and objectives of the company.


individual Members are entitled to attend and speak at General Meetings of the Charity but are not entitled to a vote.


Individual Members may only use the JEC name if Individual Membership is clearly noted and may only use the JEC logo with the express permission of the General Secretary.


Corporate Membership


Corporate Membership shall be open to:

 

any private sector company which wishes to support the aims and objectives of the company.


Corporate Members are entitled to nominate an individual to attend and speak at General Meetings of the Charity but are not entitled to a vote.


Corporate Members may only use the JEC name if Corporate Membership is clearly noted and may only use the JEC logo with the express permission of the General Secretary.


Members


No employee of the company may become a Full Member or Affiliate Member; a person admitted to Full Membership or Affiliate Membership shall automatically cease to be a Full Member or Affiliate Member if he/she becomes an employee of the company.


No more than one individual nominated by the governing organ of each unincorporated body under paragraph (a ii) of byelaw1 or paragraph (a ii) of byelaw 2 may constitute a Full Member or Affiliate Member of the company at any given time.


Application process


Any organisation or individual wishing to become a member of the JEC should contact the General Secretary in the first instance. The General Secretary will issue information about the JEC and an Application Form.


The completed Application Form should be returned to the General Secretary together with the organisation's most recent Annual Report (if produced/ relevant), audited annual accounts, governing document and information about services offered.


An acknowledgement of receipt of the Application Form will be sent by the General Secretary together with an indication of when the application will be considered, provided full information has been supplied and the application is complete (i.e. date of next meeting of the Directors).


The General Secretary will pass the Application Form and other information to the Chair for consideration at the next meeting of the Directors.


The Directors will vote (by simple majority) on whether to approve membership.


The General Secretary will notify the organisation of the decision in writing.


An invoice will be issued – membership of JEC will commence on receipt of membership subscription.


Membership subscription


Membership subscriptions are graded according to the total annual income of each organisation.


The membership year runs from 1 April - 31 March. Any organisation joining later than six months into the subscription year will receive a 50% discount.


Invoices shall be issued for payment of membership subscriptions, payment due within 30 days.


Any organisation that does not pay fees within 90 days of the date of invoice will be deemed to have withdrawn from membership. One reminder will be sent.


Payment should be made by cheque payable to JEC of the United Kingdom and Ireland.


Membership Subscription is set according to the class of membership and income of the organisation.


For the year 2010 /2011 the following rates will apply:


Full Membership

 

(Total Annual Income = Rate)
Up to £100,000 = £360.00

£100,001 to £500,000 = £670.00

£500,001 to £1,000,000 = £1,130.00

£1,000,001 to £2,000,000 = £1,850.00

£2,000,001 to £3,000,000 = £2,800.00

£3,000,001 to £4,000,000 = £3,600.00

£4,000,001 to £5,000,000 = £4,350.00

£5,000,001+ = £5,050.00


Affiliate Membership


Flat Rate: £210.00
Individual Flat Rate: £62.00


Corporate Membership


(Turnover = Rate)
Up to £1,000,000 = £2,275.00

Up to £5,000,000 = £4,530.00

£5,000,001+ = £11,300.00


Representatives


Member organisations are asked to nominate a named representative to attend Council meetings.


If the named representative cannot attend a Council meeting, a substitute may attend and vote provided the Chair / General Secretary are advised prior to the start of the meeting by the nominated contact.
